So much is made of an artists’ regional inflections; in this hyperlinked, digitally superfluous age, we stress the importance of geographical impression– you are only as true as you are to your environment. Don’t tell that to Lone (a.k.a. Matt Cutler), whose latest album, Galaxy Garden, opens on a few seconds of swelling amber chords and a rush of something that sounds like a Casio-toned steeldrum marimba lead. This opener, poignantly titled “New Colour”, affirms us of the tropical, technicolour sonics radiating through these 12 tracks, a sound that couldn’t be any further removed from the dreary industrial landscapes of Cutler’s base in Manchester via Nottingham.
